We won't push our luck though ;)
If you live in the Lethbridge area you can listen at 88.3FM or if you live elsewhere you can listen at www.ckxu.com.

Life By Stereo and Girl O'clock are both excellent shows. Check them out every Saturday night on CKXU!

Next Friday December 8th we are playing a full set of Guided By Voices songs at the Slice in Lethbridge. Paul and Quint will be joining us on stage and we will be swapping instruments often. We are going by the name Striped White Jets in honour of our heroes from Dayton Ohio. Ryan moved back to Lethbridge, they played a few shows, and then they disappeared!
Side projects. They always get in the way don't they.
Jeff and Ryan have been rehearsing and playing a few shows with Patrick and Paul as the Square Waves. Yes the same Paul that played with Favour back in the glory days of 2001. Anyway you can check out the Square Waves on some strange new site called Myspace. I heard that site is popular with the kids these days.
John started up the Forever again with Deadbeats Greg and Cale. As always they will be playing all over place and freaking the shit out of everyone with their own brand of garage rock! They are on that Myspace thing too.
We have moved into our new practice space that we share with rock stars Atrophy Manuscript and will be sharing our output here and on the Favour Myspace machine.
See you soon!
Ryan

Show Diary: Tongue n' Groove - March 25 2006 - SoyCaptain/Darby&Joan

Lethbridge - Tongue N' Groove - March 25 2006
Taped: To digital 8-Track (2 Live mics) by Quint
Other Bands: Soy Captain, The Darby And Joan Club
Playlist: Blame It On The Old School, Upstairs, The Hardest Part, Ashes, Eventually, Ripe, Yr. Mistakes, Deathbed Fantasies,
Shining Statistic, Had It All Worked Out

Good show, better than the last. Wasn't as many people as the last show, but it was still a full house. Soy Captain, which is
Mitz, Emily and a guy named Aaron, were pretty wicked. It was poppy and really good. Emily has great voice too. Mitz is awesome.
We made a few mistakes but nothing that bad. Ryan and John yelled "Deathbed" during the "loud" part of Deathbed Fantasies.
This is really the first time Ryan & John have done some singing for Favour. It was pretty cool. We raised
Upstairs from the dead and people seemed to like it. Plus The Hardest Part made it's debut and it sounded pretty good.
Darby And Joan played a good set too. It was their CD Release party, and Lorne gave me a copy. I chatted with P-bone and
Jon from Atrophy Manuscript. Apparently he likes Seam. Nice fellow. Good show.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://favourrock.blogspot.com/2006/03/show-diary-tongue-n-groove-march-25.html' title='Show Diary: Tongue n' Video Taped
Other Bands: Beginning Of The End
Playlist: Had It All Worked Out, Yr Mistakes, Ripe, Nervous Laughing Stock, Conflicting, Deathbed Fantasies,
Ashes, Modified To Fit, Blame It On The Old School. Plus: Mildred Pierce and an awful version of 30 Hours

The Return of the Favour. A mostly good show. The sound was quite good, I could hear my vocals really well. Quint is awesome
for setting up the microphones. Quite busy. I knew tons of people. People from work too, which was different, but really good.
All went well, some mistakes on Old School, and our Mildred Pierce was too fast, and our 30 Hours was a disaster. It was
the premiere of Old School and I think it's a great song. You can almost dance to it. Almost.
Jeff from Jil and his 2 piece band was next. He played bass, and the other guy Dale plays Drums. The bass was mostly
distorted and had a wicked full sound. I spoke with the drummer later and he said they've made a bunch of recordings, and
that he is a fan of Jason Loewenstein of Sebadoh. Later many people came back to my house, but no Ryan! Ryan, where were you?
Also, the show was filmed thanks to Dusty and another guy I never spoke too. We'll see how it turned out.

favourweb

Jeff:
Well we have finally moved some content to various places on the internet. We seemed to skip 2002 as far as shows, but finally, we played. It was sold out, and packed. I missed much of Red Underground. I think they were primarily covers. I heard "Rockin' In the Free World". Minimals were next, a 3 piece with an early Nirvana quality. Then we played, sometime around 11:30 or so. Our set of almost entirley new songs went very well. I managed to grab the slide for "Had It All Worked Out" in time. People seemed to like us, so we played 30 Hours as a bonus, nevermind that we havent practiced it for many months. Pulled it off though. Sound was good too, I could hear my vocals well, which helps for songs like Ripe which is clearly not in my vocal range. Tsk. And, I missed John Gleu 3, cuz I'm a bastard. But I heard they were very good too.

Hugo's

Lethbridge - Hugo's Lounge - September 29 2001
Taped: partialy video taped
Other Bands: Nick..I forget his last name, The Holics
Playlist: Modified To Fit, Waves All Around, All That You Dream, Deathbed Fantasies, Exit To The Park, Ripe, Fail Me, In The Mouth A Desert, Shining Statistic, Nurture, Sidewalk, 30 Hours, Sadier, Natural Grace (Acoustic Jeff), On Fire (Acoustic Jeff), Another Day (Acoustic Jeff), Afternoon (Acoustic John), In A Different Place (Acoustic John)

Long show. I missed the first half of Nick. He had a drum machine/sampler?, and big keyboard, and a Casio SK-1 keyboard (just like mine). He played sort of ambient keyboard sounds, it was really nice. Then the Holics came on, with Moukhi on Guitar and vocals, and a guy from Tokyo who's name I forget doing bass and vocals. And I don't know the drummer. I don't know anything, except that they were really good and I hope they keep playing together. Then we went on, and the sound quality was really good thanks to Quint. Everything was going fine till I broke my G at the end of Exit. Only at shows. So, I quickly put a new string on. We continued with a bunch more songs, then took a break. Then I did some acoustic numbers. I forgot the last half of Natural Grace ("I stumble here.."), and was pretty shaky vocally on it and On Fire. I tried to channel the spirit of Lou Barlow. Another Day went fairly well. Then John did 2 acoustic songs, using my guitar. It was a good experience. Then, finally, we finished off with 4 more band songs, throwing 30 Hrs. in at the last second. We made some beautiful noise at the end of Sadier. Good good show. Hugos is great. Rock.

Sik-Ooh-Kotoki Friendship Centre

Lethbridge - The Sik-Ooh-Kotoki Friendship Centre - July 28? 2001
Taped: No
Other Bands: The Day After Tomorrow Band (Calgary), The Red Light Sting (Vancouver)
Playlist: Deathbed Fantasies, Modified To Fit, Fail Me, Shining Statistic, Ripe, All About, Waves All Around

Back again. They need more power cords/mic stands. Not very many people showed up, most of the crowd was in one of the other bands. Marks the return of our original 3-piece line-up. Also the return of All About which hasn't been played forever, as well as the debut of "Deathbed Fantasies". We played fairly well. We tried a noise ending for Shining Statistic, but it just wasn't working for me so I sort of cut it short. Oh well. The Effectron I was making some decent sounds finally. I didn't stick around for the other bands but I guess they were good. Pracitcally everyone ended up at John's house afterwards.

Pier 49

Lethbridge - Pier 49 - May 5 2001
Taped: Videotaped (on a tripod)
Other Bands: East of Me, David Fletcher, Defpotec
Playlist: Sadier, Another Day, Fail Me, Ripe, In the Mouth a Desert, Shining Statistic, Exit To The Park, Modified to Fit, Away, Mildred Pierce

This show was great. It was $10 for the bands, pizza and pop. There was tons of people there (final count was 81), but it is a pretty small place. East of Me was really really good, I wished I had seen them the day before. They did a Sloan and a Weezer cover so therefore I like them. We definately want to play with them again, maybe a split 7"? David Fletcher was good too, but hard to hear over the crowd. He did acoustic stuff and also had a didgereedoo. However that is spelt. Defpotec did some covers of stuff, and seemed to have a good following. We played pretty good. It was the first time we've played "Shining Statistic" and it went very well. Paul got the crowd going too. The Mildred Pierce "cover" was kind of sloppy but people didn't seem to care anyways. Good show.

Sik Ooh Kotoki Friendship Centre

Lethbridge - The Sik-Ooh-Kotoki Friendship Centre "Anarcho Art Show" - May 4 2001
Taped: Partially videotaped
Other Bands: East of Me, First In Last Out
Playlist: Sadier, Another Day, Fail Me, Modified To Fit, Exit To The Park, In the Mouth a Desert, Away

Our first "real" show in a year and a half, our first show as a 4 piece with Paul on guitar. I borrowed some guys amp whose name I forget, it sounded pretty good. The cymbals fell over a bunch, and the timing went awry a few times. It was ok, but the crowd mostly wasn't that into it. The Meliorist girl gave me a shitty review saying my stage presence sucked, which it does but I didn't think it sucked as bad as her interviewing skills. Ho hum. Local Rabbits were great and Flashing Lights kicked ass and played many long songs into the night.

Barn-Elevator To Hell

Lethbridge - The Barn
Taped: Video taped except for first 2 songs
Other Bands: Delusions of Grandeur, Elevator Through Playlist: Sidewalk, Waves All Around, Cupid Come, Eventually, more...

Delusions of Grandeur were quite good, and it was only their first or second show. Feedback played a rather sloppy set. Pez Heads had some good music. Smut was good as always. We played last, and played very good. We played in a barnlike place, and near the end of "Glory", it started to rain. The rain went thru the roof and got us wet, but it was neat. So we played Another Day rather fast but it was a really good version. We are rock gods. The crowd would laugh at almost any lame comment I made. Good show though. We suck. I quit. Smut was really good, we played last. It seems like everyone left after Smut. Lotsa lameass I'm-a-punk guys there. Well, that's normal though. And Goth chics, yay. The sound was the WORST ever, I couldn't hear a fucking thing I was singing. Although we patched vocals into the recording, but the drums are too loud (or is it the guitar and bass are too quiet?!). Ryan's A or D string broke during "I'm So Near Here", so we didn't play it. He borrowed Smut's bass. The crowd mostly sucked. Matt from Smut is nice as usual though. I recorded Feedback after we played. They were drunk (except maybe for Will). Came out alright though. We played after the Unameds. Ryan's bass wasn't working when we were setting up, but luckily it worked when we played. The sound sucked again, but the vocals were louder than last time. Smut's guitarist let me use his amp. He's nice. We played quite well, although there was some bad feedback during "Paste". JL was doing the sound, of course. I didn't see Rich's band. They had good equipment, Rich had a red Gibson SG. Some of the band looked kind of old.

Taber Elk's Club

Taber - Elk's Club - Saturday, January 11th, 1997
Other bands: Second Chance, Smut, No Copies Left, Generic, uh.....
Taped: Yes
Playlist: Another Day, Hit's You, Glory, What I Want, I'm So Near Here

Well this was our first show. We were marred with technical problems. John's kick drum pedal fell off half way through "Glory". It's noticable on the tape but probably no one noticed live. The vocals were too quiet live, but they are very loud on the tape. The singing is crap, I couldn't really hear myself unless I yelled. The amp I was using stopped working for awhile too because it was unplugged or something. It was alright for a first show. Smut were good. Second Chance sounded better at the rehersal before the show. Some of the band members were pretty lame. One of the guy's from Generic seemed like a real loser. But really he's cool because he's in a band. They stole John's black sticks.
